Incidence of saphenous nerve injury after total stripping of greater saphenous vein: Its severity and effect on life

چکیده
Introduction: Total stripping of great saphenous vein is common practice since it reduces the need for reoperation. However, incidence nerve damage higher in total than conventional stripping. Methods: Fifty-seven patients who underwent were studied to find out damage, its severity and effect on day-to-day activities. Data was collected using an interviewer administered questionnaire a detailed neurological examination leg. The included questions symptoms impact their life Aberdeen Venous Severity Score (AVSS) assess outcome surgery varicosities. Results: age ranged from 17 79 years with mean 44.7 (SD 15.80) years. Men comprised 56.1% sample. Fifteen 57 legs (26.3%) had evidence either by or sensory deficit both. Patients not significantly different terms age, gender, pre-operative Clinical Aetiological Anatomical Pathophysiology (CEAP) class, post-operative CEAP AVSS, follow up interval presence recurrent varicosities when compared those didn’t have damage. Among only one persistent minimal discomfort Thirteen (22.4%) generally presenting as isolated clusters none them necessitated reoperation median 12 months. acceptance operation among seems be encouraging. Conclusions: According findings this study, can safely undertaken general surgeons acceptable risk Most damages are subclinical transient negligible

Saphenous vein stripping surgical technique and frequency of saphenous nerve injury
OBJECTIVES Saphenous nerve injury is the most common complication after surgical treatment of varicose veins. The aim of this study was to establish its frequency at great saphenous vein long stripping when four methods of surgery were applied. METHODS Eighty patients were divided into four groups depending on different stripping methods. Sensory transmission in saphenous nerve and sensory pe...
متن کاملSaphenous nerve injury caused by stripping of the long saphenous vein.
Sensory impairment in the cutaneous distribution of the saphenous nerve was measured in 30 patients after bilateral stripping of the long saphenous vein. The vein was stripped upwards in one leg and downwards in the other. Three months after operation a significantly greater incidence of sensory loss was found in those legs in which the vein was stripped upwards (13 out of 26) compared with tho...
متن کاملFemoral venous reflux abolished by greater saphenous vein stripping.
Preoperative venous duplex scanning has revealed unexpected deep venous incompetence in patients with apparently only varicose veins. Acting on the hypothesis that the deep vein reflux was secondary to deep vein dilation caused by reflux volume, the following was done. Between July 1990 and April 1993, 29 limbs in 21 patients (16 females) were examined by color-flow duplex imaging to determine ...
متن کاملLate recurrent saphenofemoral junction reflux after ligation and stripping of the greater saphenous vein.
OBJECTIVE This study was done to determine the long-term incidence of refluxing epifascial-to-deep vein reconnections in the area of the former saphenofemoral junction after ligation of the true junction, along with all proximal tributaries, and resection of the greater saphenous vein. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 125 limbs in 77 patients, representing 66% of 117 survivors among 602 patien...
متن کاملSelective retention of the great saphenous vein to prevent saphenous nerve injury during varicose vein surgery.
OBJECTIVE To explore the selective retention of the great saphenous vein trunk below the knee to prevent saphenous nerve injury during varicose vein surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS This research was a single-center prospective randomized trial. From January 2009 to January 2012, 280 patients of varicose veins in the great saphenous vein were treated and divided into two groups of 140 cases each...
